Andrea Washington (she/her), is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and clinical supervisor, a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist, and Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator with a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Houston and a Bachelor of Art degree in Art from the University of Texas.
Andrea has over 15 years of experience working at the intersectionalities of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, age, and class with those struggling with addiction and recovery issues, relationship problems, family of origin, trauma, codependence, and grief. Her approach to healing is heavily influenced by attachment theory, family systems, shame resiliency, and social justice.
“Tell me your story, not of what is wrong with you, but what happened to you.” She is a relational therapist who passionately believes in the power of relationship; that it can be an instrument to cause pain and harm at times, as well as provide healing in our lifelong pursuit of connection and belonging. She believes that we all have contexts and multiple intersections that make up who we are, how we move through the world, and how we arrived where we currently are in life. She works collaboratively with clients to create brave and safe space in the therapeutic relationship to effectively explore the attachment and connection wounds that are at the core of emotional and psychic pain, to identify those that open the door to mood disorders, addictive/compulsive/unhealthy behaviors, relationship issues, and trauma in all its many forms and manifestations. Utilizing the power of empathy, authenticity, compassion, acceptance, love, and forgiveness both towards self and others, Andrea works with clients to facilitate and promote the capacity to walk through and heal those attachment and connection wounds often experienced as shame. She believes in learning to be more accepting and loving of ourselves so we can live healthier lives, co-create healthier and fulfilling relationships with ourselves and others, and create lives worth living.
